Craniosacral therapy

Craniosacral therapy is a method of healing that was developed roughly 100 years ago by Dr. William Sutherland. According to Dr. Sutherland’s theories, your body is composed of a system of flowing energy, which is reflected in the patterns and movement along your skull and down your spine. Within the last 30 years, Craniosacral therapy has grown in popularity due to its pain-free method of relieving a variety of conditions.

Craniosacral therapy involves the balancing of the craniosacral system. This system includes your bones, nerves, fluids, and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area (dura mater). The levels of cerebral spinal fluid raise and fall throughout the dura mater. A craniosacral therapist will help correct these fluid pulsations with gentle touch therapy.

A Craniosacral therapy practitioner will work with you to help your body restore itself. Your body is capable of self-healing, but only if it is in proper working order. All of the treatments and medications in the world will not matter if internally your system isn’t working right. With craniosacral therapy, you can restore your body’s own natural healing responses.

During your craniosacral session, your therapist will lightly touch the base of your skull, your sacrum and your spine. He or she will feel the pulse of your spinal fluid through these areas and will be able to evaluate any disturbances. Through a gentle touch technique, your practitioner will correct the flow of the fluid and release blockages.

The typical craniosacral therapy session will last a half hour to 90 minutes. You will remain clothed and lie down on the therapist’s treatment table. There are several different techniques for changing the flow of spinal fluid. A therapist will also locate and disperse energy cysts that may be causing problems in your body.

Craniosacral therapy has been proven to be effective in releasing pain from brain and spinal cord injuries, nervous system disorders, TMJ, problems with tension, stress and chronic fatigue syndrome. After treatment, people report feeling refreshed, exhilarated and more balanced. In addition, they experience an improvement in their immune systems and are able to avoid getting sick.
