Practice Description
Essential Being Health is an integrated Chinese medicine clinic, offering acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and therapeutic massage/Oriental bodywork in a serene Asian setting, as well as a fully-stocked Chinese herb pharmacy.

My goal is to treat every patient's condition from the inside out, correcting the individual cause of imbalance and restoring health to its essential nature. In TCM (traditional Chinese medicine), it is the physicians goal to first identify the root of any health condition with thorough TCM diagnostics, including tongue and pulse readings, and then treat according to our findings. This individual approach is what has made TCM such an effective system of healthcare for over 2,000 years.

I use a combination of acupuncture, bodywork, and herbal therapy in my practice, treating a wide variety of internal conditions, especially those that have been difficult to treat with Western medicine alone or that have an emotional component to them. I treat men, women, and children of all ages, though my areas of specialty include women's health, fertility, sleep and stress disorders, allergy relief, and pain management.

Education
Graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College in 2006

AcuPages.com Q&A

Q: Why did you decide to be an acupuncturist?
I became involved in the natural health industry in 1994 when I attended the Massage Therapy Training Institute in Kansas City, MO. Massage was immediately a gratifying career path, but I always felt like there was more to be done. I wanted to provide more than relaxation or soft tissue manipulation. I wanted to help people heal from within, to get to the core of the problem, to correct their imbalances in ways that massage alone couldn't do. I studied acupuncture in 1998 (a very brief course of instruction intended for chiropractic doctors), and was immediately thirsty for more! But learning more would mean having to move, and that opportunity didn't arise until 2002, when I moved to Boulder, CO. to attend Southwest Acupuncture College. I enrolled in the 4 year Master's degree program which involved nearly 3,000 hours of didactic and clinical training, and included advanced training in OB/GYN disorders. After I graduated from the program, I completed a one-month internship in Chinese herbal medicine with the International Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. I have been in private practice in Boulder since that time, integrating massage therapy with my acupuncture and herbal training.

I have a strong passion for treating women's health conditions--everything from menstrual disorders, pregnancy and postpartum support, and menopausal syndrome--as well as stress disorders causing insomnia, depression/anxiety, migraines, and muscle tension.
Q: What work/education experience makes you a better acupuncturist ?
I believe that I am a much better acupuncturist from the 14 years I have spent doing bodywork and massage. Those years of honing my palpatory skills help me not only needle more effectively, but be more in tune with the body and its signs of imbalance. My hands have become a second set of eyes and ears for me and often give me more information than question/answer sessions alone can do. I enjoy this time communicating with my patients bodies, "listening" and also "talking" with my hands. It has become a sort of communion between the patient and myself and I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to be included in it.
Q: What about your personal interests?
I am an amateur photographer and avid nature enthusiast--and find great fulfillment combining the two as a nature photographer. I love hiking in the mountains, travel, and now being a new mom!
