AcuPages.com Q&A
Q: Why did you decide to be an acupuncturist?
I was an aspiring Olympic Athlete( Badminton), after many hours and years of strenuous training I began to suffer from severe knee pain. I was forced to take a break from training and decided to become a massage therapist. After trying anti-inflammatories for months, physical therapy and rest without success, a friend suggested to try acupuncture for my ongoing pain.
At first, I was a bit skeptical. Alternative medicine was very new to me at that time. I gave it a try, after all nothing had helped. Within 12 treatments I started to feel much better, and eventually I was pain free. I was fascinated with the philosophy of Oriental Medicine. Soon after I was finished with Massage Therapy school instead of going back to my training to pursue my olympic dream, I registered into the Oriental Medicine program. It was defenatly the best decision. I love my profession. I am a passionate physician who is lucky enough to say that I have been exposed to alternative medicine as a patient, as a student, and now as a practitioner. I am happy to say that I still play badminton (for fun) while I cheer for my amazingly talented friends for this year 2008 olympics.
Q: What work/education experience makes you a better acupuncturist ?
I have been a Massage Therapist since 2002. I worked as an Acupuncture physician in a busy chiropractic office for 2 years. Last but certainly not least, I have completed hundreds of post-graduate hours in clinical (functional) nutrition with ongoing study and research.
Q: What about your personal interests?
I love playing sports, eating healthy, being happy, and education.
