AcuPages.com Q&A

Q: Why did you decide to be an acupuncturist?
I decided to pursue a career as an acupuncturist when my mother was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. Knowing she had to undergo chemotherapy after surgery, I decided to investigate other alternatives to help support her immune system and deal with the negative side affects associated with chemo. That's when I came across The New York College of Health Professions. I decided to attend an Open House the school was providing and that's when my interest began. I had my mother go to the school to receive acupuncture treatments and various herbal formulas while she was undergoing chemo. During that entire time, her immune system remained quite strong and her white blood count never dropped. She lost very little of her hair, something she was concerned about. As a result, and almost seven years later, my mother remains in remission and is almost 80 years old. This was enough proof to convince me that this old medicine has a lot more to offer and worth becoming a part of.
