Practice Description
I offer you compassionate, holistic, relationship-centered, professional care. The time and attention you receive may be a new experience, and can lead to excellent results.

I practice Five-Element Acupuncture, where I observe how a person lives in nature and through the seasons, working with mind and spirit as well as bodily ailments. Treatments balance the body's energy (qi), stimulating the natural innate healing ability on all levels. All treatments are individual, planned for each patient at each session.

My practice is general, although I have special interest in chronic diseases such as Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue, Arthritis, Women's Health, Lactation, Infertility and IVF (In vitro fertilization) support. I am in the process of developing a Smoking Cessation program in partnership with a Health Educator.

Education
Graduated from Tai Sophia Institute in 2007 with Masters of Acupuncture (M.Ac.) degree
Graduated from Thomas Edison State College in 2003 with BA degree

AcuPages.com Q&A

Q: Why did you decide to be an acupuncturist?
Before studying acupuncture, I had a 30 year career in nursing, primarily in Obstetrics, Newborn Nursery and NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and Lactation. This is my story.

Twenty years ago, I became so exhausted I could hardly get through the day, and I developed constant pain in my joints and muscles, so bad that it hurt if someone just touched me. I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1994. No medical treatment helped much. I was thinking about applying for disability. I never could have imagined that I would work and go back to school.

People asked me. "Have you tried acupuncture?" But I didn't know where to look for a good acupuncturist. Then, a graduate student at Tai Sophia Institute referred me to an Acupuncture Intern in the Student Clinic. I was desperate to feel better, so I went for treatment.

Gradually my pain went away, and my energy returned. It was Amazing! I GOT MY LIFE BACK! The pain and chronic fatigue are gone, and I am able to do more than I ever imagined. I also found peace and joy in living, as well as the inspiration to expand my personal and professional life.

I went to school to study acupuncture, and now I am sharing this amazing medicine with others. It is a great pleasure to be able to take the time people need and offer the best care I can give, the kind I would like to receive myself, and which I believe everyone deserves.
Q: What work/education experience makes you a better acupuncturist ?
My experience working as an RN, particularly in Obstetrics and as a Lactation Consultant taught me a great deal. Having the interpersonal skills to put people in the midst of anxiety and pain, and in situations which might be embarrassing otherwise was tremendously important. I was able to help new mothers feel safe and supported during and after they gave birth, and in teaching them to breastfeed their babies. The problem solving and diagnostic skills I learned and used in these roles is also important and useful as an acupuncturist. I am able to meet a new patient who may have no idea what to expect and put her/him at ease. We discuss many details of past and current life and health, and I can calm any fears about needle treatment. Applying my diagnostic skills to Chinese medicine helps me to consider how to treat each patient. My experience in one-on-one teaching assist me in teaching acupuncture patients about lifestyle issues as well as Five-Element acupuncture and the theory of Chinese medicine.
Q: What about your personal interests?
I have a number of hobbies and interests.
I have been enjoying knitting and crocheting items for gifts as well as home use since I was in high school. Now I am enjoying making sweaters and blankets for my two grandchildren.
My love of making music began as a child, with piano lessons. As a teenager, I taught myself to play the guitar, which I still play. More recently, I have done some African drumming, and I am just learning to play the hammered dulcimer.
I love to read, especially science fiction and fantasy, I am interested in computers, and I enjoy cooking, especially Chinese and Indian dishes.
