Chronic Migraines And The Benefits Of Applying Acupuncture
You are probably aware of the physical act of acupuncture. People seek acupuncture for a wide array of reasons. It is certainly used to calm and relax the muscles, which is precisely what has led to studies researching whether or not acupuncture migraine is an effective treatment.
There have been a number of different studies and research on this topic. Two separate publications have published studies with strong conclusions on the effectiveness of acupuncture for chronic migraine relief. It makes sense being that stress and muscle tension certainly causes migraines.
In one of the studies, 302 patients were used and most of them were women who suffered from migraines. Patients were administered acupuncture, sham acupuncture and a waiting list control. While it was found that sham acupuncture was no less effective than regular acupuncture, both had much more of an effect than the wait list control.
The other study used 160 women and ran a controlled examination on the effects of acupuncture migraine as oppose to flunarizine for migraines. The first group was given acupuncture weekly for two months and then once monthly for four months. As for flunarizine, it was given to patients every day for two months and then 20 days a month for four months. The results were clear that acupuncture had far more of an effect.
Chronic migraines can be a troubling problem to put up with. While there is still a lot of research and studies to conduct, it has been found through the two studies listed above that acupuncture headache can have a positive effect on chronic migraines.
